Music has a special way of getting words and phrases stuck in your head, and that can make it a great tool in helping you to learn how to speak a new language! Singing along with your favorite songs can help improve your pronunciation and can help you learn new words, phrases, and slang. December is National Learn a Foreign Language Month, but at Music Will, we have recognized it as Language Celebration Month.
It is in this spirit that we acknowledge that language matters and we’ve made the choice to say “Language Celebration Month” in a conscious effort to de-center Westernized outlooks of what is deemed as “foreign” language and, by extension, what are deemed as “foreign”cultures and heritages. Many of the languages below are anything but “foreign” to the students in our classrooms and we hope to continue to build inclusive spaces for our teachers, students, and communities in alignment to our work and mission, this month and beyond!
To help you narrow down your searches even more, we’ve also added a Language option to the search tool in the Learn a Song section of JamZone!
To celebrate a variety of world languages, we’ve put together a song pack that features 10 different languages and made a Spotify playlist featuring even more artists!
